The day is ending. The cattle are turning homeward. And walking among them, flute in hand, is the boy who is also a god — Krishna, the divine cowherd of Vrindavan, returning home as the light fades and the village waits. This is one of the most beloved scenes in all of Indian devotional art: the moment when the divine is most completely, most tenderly human.
